The World According to Me

BOOB ALERT

Not mine.

I found this picture some days ago, while surfing through my blogroll.

Amanda Palmer (Dresden Dolls) and 4 other of her friends, celebrating for their new tent.  Topless.

It’s a picture that makes me smile every time I see it.  It’s natural, funny, and refreshing.

I like it because these are women like myself (normal), and they’re not afraid of doing something like that because they freaking want to, only because they lack model bodies – full, symetrical breasts with incredibly flat waists and a perfect tan.

I like it because they can use parts of their body in a fun way without hypersexualising them…

Look! their boobs are on public view! They’re out there! Hide them! You are disrespecting yourselves and tempting men!

I was recently reading a local magazine that featured a muslim woman defending their use of the Hijab (wish I could find the article online! Grrr! Sorry).  I am not going to get deep into this, I’m NOT going to talk about the religion or the culture. I just wanted to note something the woman said about the Hijab.  She basically says that by covering all her grown female parts, (mouth and ears included) she’s making sure that whenever she talks, people are paying attention to her words and not her sexuality.

Another article says:

A female doctor, writer, electrician or plumber may be appreciated in the work environment for her skill, but is still basically seen as “just a woman.” But put her in Hijab so that what makes her a woman cannot be appraised and all of a sudden you are dealing with a person...”

Of course I’d hate to be treated as “just a woman“.  I live in a culture that  has lots of residual sexism in the minds of the average person.  The housewife, the mother, the fragile rose that needs to be protected, cared for and marked as part of the territory.  Women like to be roses and men like to own them.

I absolutely hate this, and it’s partly why I often feel like a stranger in this Latino culture I don’t belong to.  But that’s another topic.

In my opinion; It is the sexist mindset, not the fact that I am a woman what would cause people to see me as “just a woman“.

Why would I ever have to hide it?  And isn’t hiding it in such an active way actually highlighting the fact that there’s something forbidden in there?

That doesn’t mean I will post my boobs out here, or go outside in a see-through baby doll with fleshy glossy lips.  (Hypersexualised me… I’ll leave that for other times… when I’m looking for a sexual objective).

I’m a female human.  I have arms, legs eyes and boobs (o.O mind-blowing!) among a hundred other organs.  I could wish that looking at boobs was as normal as looking at hands…

Of course, in most human cultures, the breasts are sexual… and that’s cool.  But are they ONLY sexual?  The lips and tongue can be sexual and can be a BIG part of sexuality.  But, when you’re speaking or eating, are they sexual? (well, I don’t know what you’re into).

Some people tend to be very wary of women breastfeeding. But babies need to eat whenever they’re hungry, so the boob is going to pop out and scare you if you’re not expecting it.  “Boobs are only sexual” comes into your unconcious mind, and this thought, plus the sight of a baby and milk and sucking will make it Gross for you.

Boobs can be beautiful in a very artistic way.  Interesting shadows and lights.  A very nice composition.  I wouldn’t mind to be the model of this photo, and I wouldn’t feel like my privacy has been taken or that I’m being immoral or that I objectizise women or myself.

Boobs can also be left out for some fun whenever we want to, not sexual.

And finally, if we do want to use them in a sexual way, well, bring it on!

Nessa is a geek for today.

First of all, if you haven’t yet, download the new release of Firefox for a World Guinness Record for most downloads in 24 hours.   17th June 6pm GMT to 18th June 6 pm GMT. This means most of you still have time! I found out thanks to Tanya… I am surprised my own firefox browser didn’t pop something up telling me about it… it always does.

Colombia is on the 20 K downloads! it’s not much but at least it’s more than our neighboring countries, and that’s good.  YAY We rock.

So in other news… I’ve been obsessed with YouTube lately, watching stupid videos and whatnot, making stupid videos and whatnot, deleting my stupid videos and so on.  I’ve been messing with my old computer, and I formatted the four hard drives it had and reinstalled it all.  I had to use windows again, because I originally was trying to do something new…  I was trying to install this OS.   I have an old computer so I can do anything with it, can’t I?  But the cd I made was corrupted and I ran out of spare cds, so it will have to wait another day at least.

While searching for old files, I found something I liked.  Some of my Pixel Art!

I need a boost

A new addition to my blogroll

UPDATE = I HAVE CREATED A BLOGROLL PAGE THIS ONE INCLUDED.  A LITTLE PLACE FOR EVERY BLOG TO BE.  I HAVE INCLUDED DESCRIPTIONS OF WHAT EACH LINK MEANS TO ME…. “WHAT A LINK MEANS TO ME” POETIC HUH?  WELL, MAYBE NOT.  JUST FOLLOW THE LINK.

Letters From Exile (LA)

It started as both of us being victims of blog scrapping off by the same criminal. Some site that as I see is now gone, that was all about depression and just posted entries from my blog and many other bloggers. LA very kindly emailed me to let me know about this, just like in the past Sulz emailed me to let me know about another blog scrapper case. After they sent notifications of this to the appropriate places, I found myself immersed in LA’s blog instead.

1) It’s a blog about depression.

2) It’s not long and whiney like mine, although my blog is not “about” depression, it’s about Me, the complicated and confused Nessa who also happens to suffer from depression. So I get to be whiney… maybe not, but I still am. And you still read me, so there.

3) Although there are thousands of blogs about depression, this one particulary attracted me, because it has very good material about how depression affects herself and other people in a very concise, easy to read, and even in a fun way.

I’d like to ask some of the people who are kind of confused about the depressed girl who writes here (me) and her “emo” entries, to read some of the entries of my featured blog, since in my opinion, it would help you understand what it’s like to suffer from depression as opossed to “ohhh I’m so depressed, my boyfriend broke up with me today”.

4) Of course, besides all that, I liked it because it triggers a “DITTO!” response on myself. And a sweet jealous hate of “why didn’t I think of that before”. That of course attracts blog scrappers but I’m not one of them.

I could end my post here, but I seem to be incapable of making short posts. So I am going to point to a few posts that triggered the ditto response.

Nah, jk, you get to see them by yourself. :)

*

Actually, I just wanted to ask you people:

What is the first thing you consider when you arrive at a new blog?

I mean, you obviously consider the whole content of the blog after reading a few entries, but what is the hook? Because you don’t read the whole content of every blog you read, or do you? Wow, you’re a machine. Scrapper!

*ahem*

So, what is the most common thing that hooks you into a blog?

  • A hot entry
  • The main theme… “A blog about atheism”, “A blog about books”
  • The visual Theme (The skin).
  • The About Page
  • The titles of the posts
  • The number of comments
  • The number of visits
  • The engine: WordPress/Blogger, etc.
  • Other (specify…)

Happy Blogging!

MOTHERHOOD

TO be continued…

April 30, 2008 Posted by crazyasuka | Cool Things | | 3 Comments

Revelation: My real name is Esther Vanhomrigh

“Vanessa” is just a pseudonym.

*evil stare*

So, here’s the story.

I was surfing around the web instead of working, and I thought it would be oh so awesome to google about the origin of my name. I already know about my surname and all, but it had never occured to me to search for my first name, Vanessa.

Here’s what I found:

Vanessa (WIkipedia):

The name Vanessa was invented by Irish writer Jonathan Swift for Esther Vanhomrigh, whom Swift had met in 1708 and whom he tutored. The name was created by taking “Van” from Vanhomrigh’s last name and adding “Essa”, the pet form of Esther.

In 1726 the name Vanessa appeared in print for the first time in Cadenus and Vanessa, an autobiographical poem about Swift’s relationship with Vanhomrigh. Swift had written the poem in 1713, but it was not published until three years after Vanhomrigh died.

There is a conjectured relationship of Swift’s invented name to that of Vannozza dei Cattanei, the mother of the famed Cesare Borgia, who had lived 200 years earlier. It means beautiful.

Vanessa has been adopted later as the name of a genus of butterfly.

Feminine.

Origin: English.

Pronunciation: va-NES-a

Meaning: butterfly in greek

Variant: Nessa, Nessie, Nessy, Van, Vanesa, Vanesse, Vanetta, Vania, Vanija, Vanna, Vannessa, Vannetta, Vannie, Vanya, Venesa, Venessa, Venetta, Vinessa, Vonessa, Vonesse and Vonnessa.

Popularity: Vanessa ranked as a very popular name on the 1990 U.S. Census, at 195 out of 4275 for females of all ages.

So, thank you Jonathan Swift, for my existence… well, of course I would have existed anyways, just named “Maria Juana” or something…

I used to hate my name anyway.
